Best Islands Near Cebu Weekend Getaway Philippines

One of Cebu's unfair advantages: within two to four hours you can be on islands that people fly across the world to see. Here's the honest weekend ranking.

Mactan — the no-travel option (30–45 min from the city)

Not an escape exactly — it's where the airport is — but resorts like those in Lapu-Lapu offer day passes for pools and beach access (₱500–1,500). Add the Mactan Shrine and sutukil seafood restaurants (fresh fish, grilled/soup/raw, choose your method). Perfect for a Saturday when you can't face a ferry.

Bantayan Island — the classic long weekend

• Getting there: bus or van from Cebu North Bus Terminal to Hagnaya Port (3 hours, ₱200–250), then a 75-minute ferry to Santa Fe (₱200–300). Boats run most of the day; last trips get canceled when weather turns.
• Vibe: wide white-sand beaches at Santa Fe, bike-friendly flat roads, a slow island rhythm. Known for dried fish (it's one of the country's producers) and — surprisingly — for Kota Beach and its sandbar.
• Budget: ₱4,000–6,000 for a weekend including decent beachfront rooms (₱1,500–3,500/night).
• Caveat: peak seasons (Holy Week especially) see prices double; book early.

Malapascua Island — divers' corner

• Getting there: van to Maya Port (3.5–4 hours from Cebu City), then a 30-minute bangka.

Bohol — the most to do in one trip

• Getting there: fast ferries from Cebu's Pier 1 to Tagbilaran (OceanJet/Supercat, 2 hours, ₱700–1,000 one way). Several daily departures.
• Why go: the Chocolate Hills, tarsiers at the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella (skip the roadside cages), Loboc River cruises, and Panglao Island's Alona Beach. You can rent a scooter or a driver (₱2,000–3,500/day) to see the highlights in one loop.
• Budget: ₱6,000–9,000 for an action-packed weekend for two.

Camotes Islands — the sleeper pick

• Getting there: fast craft from Pier 1 (2 hours, ₱500–800) or a roll-on ferry from Danao City (2 hours, cheaper).
• Why go: Lake Danao, Timubo Cave, Santiago Bay's long beach — and far fewer tourists than Bantayan. It's the island Cebuanos keep to themselves.

1. Weather rules everything. One PAGASA gale warning and ferries stop — build a buffer day on both ends for far islands, or accept that Sunday-night returns sometimes don't happen.

3. Cash only on the smaller islands — withdraw before leaving Cebu City.
4. Rooms: Bookable options are thin on Camotes and Malapascua; a call or Facebook message to the resort works better than an app.
5. Island hopping from Mactan (Pandanon, Hilutungan, Nalusuan) is a solid half-day alternative: ₱1,500–3,000 per boat shared among friends.
