The cardinal rules

Never sing "My Way" — This is the single most dangerous karaoke song in the Philippines. Multiple murders have been committed over bad "My Way" performances. Not an urban legend.

Never criticize someone's singing — Even if it is terrible. Sing along, clap, cheer. That is the deal.

Never turn down the microphone — When someone hands you the mic, you sing. Refusing is deeply offensive.

Volume is not negotiable — Filipino karaoke is LOUD. If you want quiet, do not go to karaoke.

Duet is mandatory when offered — Accept or face social death.
